If your tv does not have a hdmi arc input but does have an optical toslink digital output this hdmi to optical digital adapter can be used to get sound from your tv to a sonos amp sonos beam and other soundbars that only feature an hdmi arc jack.
Sonos optical hdmi switch.
You can direct the video by hdmi to the tv and the audio via optical from each accessory to the switch and connect the optical out from switch to sonos playbar.
I could go the separate hdmi and optical switch route and get something cheaper but i m also a little worries about simplicity.
As well it puts sonos into the video side of things probably more than they want to be.
Free verified i get 5 1 from all my sources unless of course the actual media.
This adapter will still support 5 1ch dolby digital and 2ch pcm.
The octava is expensive maybe even more expensive than a hdmi and a separate optical switch.
The potential problem is that playbars and playbases only have an optical input not hdmi.
The solution is is an hdmi switch such as this one from amazon.
Yes that is fine.
Some tvs particularly older ones only output audio via hdmi while others do have an optical audio output but only of the 2 0 channel variety.
Providing the device can output dd5 1 over optical it should be fine.
Seems like a good product but meh for 250 i d almost rather invest that in a newer 4k tv that passes dd fine.
It may make sense for sonos to sell their own hdmi optical switch but looking at amazon that market is pretty well covered with lots of different flavors and probably not much profit margin.
Sonos out port 2.
I used a viewhd 3x1 optical switch like that with a panasonic tv with no problems.
